Through a scientific symposium, POND’S and CLEAR highlight the latest technologies in facial skin and scalp care

CLEAR Anti Dandruff Scalp Tonic's latest innovation introduced at the PIT PERDOSKI XX, Bali

Committed to scientific and technological excellence, Unilever Indonesia participated in the prestigious 20th Annual Scientific Meeting of the Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology (PIT PERDOSKI), held in Nusa Dua, Bali, from July 10–12, 2025. Presenting innovations from two of its most prominent brands, POND’S and CLEAR, Unilever Indonesia hosted this symposium, which addressed the importance of maintaining the skin’s microbiome balance to support facial skin barrier function as well as the crucial role of a strong scalp barrier in addressing and preventing dandruff.

PIT PERDOSKI gathered thousands of dermatologists from across Indonesia to discuss advances in dermatology and venereology through a series of scientific sessions. This year, for the first time, the event was held on an international scale in conjunction with the 1st PAN ASIA CONFERENCE OF DERMATOLOGY 2025.

Dr. Ketut Kwartantaya Winaya, Sp.D.V.E., Subsp.O.B.K., FINSDV, FAADV, Chair of the 1st PAN ASIA and PIT PERDOSKI XX Committee, stated: “Each year, PIT serves as the annual agenda of the Indonesian Society of Dermatology and Venereology. This year, Bali has the honor of hosting the 20th PERDOSKI Annual Scientific Meetings. Collaboration with various stakeholders is essential to drive innovation and expand educational outreach, thus allowing this event to have a greater and more meaningful impact.”

This includes industry players such as Unilever Indonesia, whose research provides valuable insights into the development of science and technology-based solutions. We hope this will enhance the knowledge of medical professionals while also improving public access to quality information and products.”

At PIT PERDOSKI XX, Unilever Indonesia held the symposium titled “Unveiling the Scalp & Skin Microbiome: Skin Health and Recent Technological Updates,” featuring leading dermatology experts and the Head of R&D from Unilever Indonesia. This symposium emphasized the importance of skin microbiome balance and scalp barrier function in achieving healthy skin and scalp.

Speaking on the skin’s microbiome, Dr. Eliza Miranda, Sp.D.V.E, Subsp.D.T, FINSDV, FAADV, explained: “As a dynamic ecosystem of microorganisms that live on the surface of the skin, the skin microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining both the physical and chemical defenses of the skin while supporting the integrity of the skin barrier. Disrupting the balance of the skin microbiome can lead to various issues such as dryness, acne, atopic dermatitis, psoriasis, and even premature aging. Emerging therapies in the beauty world, such as those using prebiotics, offer promising solutions to help restore and maintain the microbiome’s balance.”

In response, Matthew Seal, M.Sc., Head of R&D Beauty & Wellbeing, Unilever Indonesia, added: "As a pioneer that began in-depth research on the skin microbiome in 2007 alongside numerous global research institutions and universities, the POND’S Skin Institute introduces Indonesia’s first Biome Gel product: POND’S Ultra Light Biome Gel. Formulated with millions of prebiotics, this product is formulated to balance the skin microbiome and maintain the skin's natural pH for 72 hours non-stop.”

This innovation is available in two product lines tailored to specific skin needs: POND’S Hydra Miracle Ultra Light Biome Gel, with Cera-Hyamino™ (a blend of Pro-Ceramide, Hyaluron, and Amino Acids) for hydration and skin barrier strengthening; and POND’S Bright Miracle Ultra Light Biome Gel, with Niasorcinol™ (a combination of Niacinamide and E-Resorcinol) to brighten the skin.

Regarding scalp barrier health, Prof. Dr. Sandra Widaty, Sp.D.V.E, Subsp.D.T, FINSDV, FAADV, explained: “The key to addressing dandruff and preventing its recurrence lies in strengthening the scalp barrier—our natural shield against external aggressors such as pollution, UV rays, and high humidity. Recent findings show that this can be done more effectively through a complete scalp care routine with complementary functions.”

“This includes not only shampoo, but also leave-on treatments like scalp tonics specifically formulated to combat dandruff and reinforce the scalp barrier. Formulas containing ingredients such as piroctone olamine and niacinamide are among the options that can help manage dandruff more effectively and support long-term scalp health.

Supporting more holistic scalp care, CLEAR introduced its latest innovation at the symposium: CLEAR Anti Dandruff Scalp Tonic, powered by Clear ScalpPro Tech™—its most advanced scalp care technology. This tonic contains piroctone olamine (anti-dandruff agent) and 3.5% niacinamide + hyaluron complex to strengthen the scalp barrier by up to four times.

Matthew added: "With an easy-to-use leave-on application, the innovative CLEAR Scalp Tonic offers instant benefits, like soothing itchiness caused by dandruff, neutralizing odor, and delivering a refreshing cooling sensation with a pleasant fragrance. With regular use, this innovation can significantly reduce visible dandruff by calming the scalp and protecting it from environmental aggressors, helping you stay dandruff-free all day long.”

Previously, CLEAR collaborated with the PERDOSKI Jakarta Branch through “CLEAR X Scalp Derma Expert,” a series of programs that are 100% committed to helping Indonesians overcome dandruff with a strong scalp barrier. Unilever Indonesia will continue to collaborate with trusted partners like PERDOSKI to advance research, enrich the knowledge of dermatologists, and disseminate education.
