The Green Building Council (GBC) is a member of the World Green Building Council, aims to promote sustainable development through various certification programs, including GREENSHIP. These certifications recognize Unilever Indonesia's commitment to achieving net zero emissions, demonstrated by the use of renewable energy for up to 8% of its electricity needs and a 32% of reduction in electricity consumption from the baseline at Grha Unilever.

The certification plaques were presented by Iwan Prijanto, Chairman of GBC Indonesia, to Willy Saelan, Director of Human Resources at Unilever Indonesia, during a ceremony held at Grha Unilever, BSD City, Tangerang, on Thursday (24/10).

Willy Saelan, Director of Human Resources Unilever Indonesia, emphasized, "This achievement exemplifies our commitment to sustainability. We will continue to support Unilever's global target of achieving Net Zero Emission by 2039 through various initiatives. In our pursuit of leading sustainability practices, we consistently undertake necessary actions, including obtaining the Net Zero Ready certification from the Green Building Council."

Unilever Indonesia first received certification from GBC Indonesia in 2020 for the GREENSHIP New Building category at the platinum level. Grha Unilever, constructed in 2015 and inaugurated in June 2017, was designed with a focus on sustainability and energy efficiency, establishing it as a leading example of green building practices in Indonesia.

In 2024, Unilever Indonesia achieved the GREENSHIP Existing Building Platinum certification from GBC Indonesia, the highest accolade for operational sustainability in buildings. This certification evaluates energy efficiency, water management, indoor environmental quality, and material management. Grha Unilever has sustainable features that include a 32% reduction in water consumption, a 32% decrease in electricity consumption, comprehensive waste management, and optimal indoor air quality, providing a comfortable and environmentally friendly workplace.

Iwan Prijanto Chairman, Green Building Council Indonesia remarked, "The Net Zero Ready certification process assesses various factors, including energy consumption, building materials, and renewable energy integration, ensuring that certified properties can attain net-zero status with minimal adjustments in the future. Grha Unilever, with its Net Zero Ready certification, serves as an inspiration for the business community to collaborate in achieving national and global targets for reducing the impacts of climate change, aligning with market demands for sustainable business practices."

By attaining this Net Zero Ready certification, Unilever Indonesia reaffirms its commitment to balancing sustainability with business growth, contributing to a greener and more sustainable future for Indonesia.

"We will continue to implement sustainable business practices aligned with our four focus areas: climate, nature, plastic, and livelihoods. These initiatives not only support the Company’s vision for a sustainable future but also promote environmental sustainability and community well-being,” Willy Saelan concluded.
