Public Health Education
Indonesiasociety’s health condition in hygiene and sanitation is still below the proper level. Starting in 2000, Unilever Indonesia through Unilever Indonesia Foundation launched Public Health Education Program (PHE). PHE program focuses on giving education about healthy living to the society. Healthy living behaviors such as using soap for hand washing, day and night teeth brushing, and preserving the environment are an understanding that already known by the society, but not necessarily well applied.
Started out with Lifebuoy and Pepsodent’s efforts on their social mission, PHE came to support brand’s social mission in a sustainable way. Doing so is by collaboration with local government and NGOs.
In 2005, PHE launched a new program in Yogyakarta called The Integrated Health Promotion Program (IHPP). IHPP’s focus is on giving a health education to kindergarten age kids and female adults in Posyandu. Until now, this program has been replicated to West Java, East Java, Makassar and Medan.
Entering 2007, PHE added their focus on AIDS preventive action in Indonesia. It started from “Brani Ngomong Brani Buktiin” project, a collaborated event between Indonesia Unilever Foundation, Close Up, Yayasan Cinta Anak Bangsa (YCAB), Prambors Radio and Music Telvision Indonesia. This event later became an educational program about AIDS preventive action for Junior and Senior High School Students. This program was then called “Surabaya Stop AIDS” in 2008 and “Jakarta Stop AIDS” in 2010.
The third focus of PHE is nutrition program. Collaborated with World Food Programme, Unilever aimed to increase public awareness about the importance of sufficient nutrient and also helps kids with malnutrition problem through “Together for Child Vitality”
Until today, PHE has already included the education of healthy and clean living into their programs. While entering 2010 quarter, this collaboration program will focus on foods’ variety campaign as an effort to reactivate local nutritious foods as society’s food intake in East Lombok.
