As a form of concern and support for sanitation and health, especially for children and the surrounding environment, Unilever and Carrefour again held a joint social activity today (5/7) with 800 residents of Depok from the RW 19 neighborhood in Depok, West Java. The program is implemented with the aim of fostering closer relations among Unilever and its customers, in this case, Carrefour. The activity reflects Unilever and Carrefour’s concern to promote its corporate social responsibility to the surrounding areas.
The joint social activity involving more than 250 employees of Unilever and Carrfour together with 800 residents consisting of women, men and children, began at 10:00 in the morning. Various activities in education and greening efforts were disseminated through cleaning the surrounding areas, donating medicinal/herbal plants and sorting of waste as well as processing waste into compost.
In attendance are Muhammad Saleh, Corporate Relations Director PT Unilever Indonesia, Tbk and Irawan D. Kadarman, Corporate Affairs Director PT Carrefour Indonesia together with the employees of the Carrefour outlets of Depok, Cikokol and the Head Office. Also attending are Depok Mayor, Nur Mahmudi Ismail and deputy Yuyun Wira Saputra as well as Taufik Savalas as Lifebuoy brand ambasador.

We expect the education program and planting of medicinal/herbal plants at the RW 19 neighborhood in Depok, can benefit the communities, while at the same time cultivating good relations among Unilever and Carrefour employees and the surrounding community members,” said Muhammad Saleh, Corporate Relations Director of PT Unilever Indonesia.
Meanwhile, Irawan Kadarman explained that “Carrefour is committed to participate in various social activities, particularly those related with the promotion of the quality of life such as education or the environment. Cleanliness, which is a part of the environment aspect, is one of the factors to promote the quality. That is why, the activity today constitutes one of our efforts to create a clean, healthy and comfortable surrounding areas through the improvement of public facilities, which is the pedestrian walkway.”
The education aspect of the Joint Social Activity covers educating the children on dental hygiene, in which children are taught the importance of brushing their teeth at least twice a day and the dangers if they do not do so; as well as emphasizing the importance of washing hands with soap as an crucial first step in preventing disease and maintaining health. Other activities include interactive education such as quiz and an earth drama.
Other education activities given to mothers cover environmental cleanliness, in which the people are taught to sort organic and non organic waste, with the organic waste being processing into compost and the non organic recycled into products that have an economic value for the residents. While the greening activity covers the donation of a number of medicinal/herbal plants in order to create a more comfortable and healthy atmosphere for the community and to promote awareness on the importance of environmental conservation.
During the opportunity, Unilever, through its brands, namely, Pepsodent, Lifebuoy, Rinso, Molto, SariWangi, Blue Band, Wall’s, Lux, Sunlight and Domestos NoMos donated products and cleaning implements. While Carrefour’s donation was in the form of public facility repair, namely, on pedestrian walkways through the RW 19 neighborhood in Depok.
“Educating the public on the importance of cleanliness and greening is the key towards a healthy, clean and green community. We hope that such education activities will also be conducted by others in other areas which need the support, so that more families and people will benefit,” said Saleh in conclusion.
