Indonesia. Unilever receives the award for the consumer and trade category. The awards were presented at the Best Public Companies Awards Presentation Night held in the Ballroom of Hotel Shangri La in Jakarta, Tuesday (31/5).

Attending the event to accept the award was Director of PT Unilever Indonesia Tbk, Joseph Bataona. The awards were presented by Chairman of Bapepam-LK (Capital Market and Financial Institutions Supervisory Agency), Nurhaida; President Director of the Indonesia Stock Exchange, Ito Warsito, and President Director of PT Tempo Inti Media, Bambang Harymurti.

The ratings were based on stock and financial performance and their impact as driving forces in the Indonesian stock market, as well as based on financial statements per December 2010.

Joseph Bataona said, “We are very pleased that we have been selected as one of the best public companies for 2010. With a rating score of 7.5, we were considered as deserving this award, because of our success in maintaining performance in the consumer sector. This award is an attribute to our success in maintaining our performance through our excellent human resources, product innovations and aggressive marketing."

The committee selected 424 companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. There was a gradual selection process, eliminating companies that did not fulfill the criteria. After the initial selection process, 283 companies advanced to the next selection, until there were only 100 companies with big market capitalization and reasonable liquidity. At this stage, selection was based on the five sectors which controlled 93% of the Indonesian stock market capitalization.

The five were the financial, mining, industry, consumer, and infrastructure sectors. Next, the companies with the best performance were selected based on 10 criteria, each with a certain weight assigned to it. These ten criteria included Return on Equity, Return on Assets, stock price performance, earnings per share, net margins, earnings growth, employee income, price to book value, market capitalization, and corporate profits.
